I am not concerned that President Obama will interject any controversial topics into his speech to schoolchildren on Tuesday. He’s way too smart to do something like that.
My concern has nothing to do with his personal politics. I simply don’t believe it is appropriate for the government, or the president, to tell our children what to think, what to do and how to act.
There is a growing dependence on government to take care of us and tell us how to run our lives. That’s not a good thing.
Regardless of intentions, having Big Brother talk directly to our children and establish himself as their authority figure sounds a bit sinister to me. There is good reason to worry about this, and we shouldn’t have to accept it.
— James, Arlington
“Regardless of his intention” Hummm… You mean the intentions he has to encourage America’s children to stay in school, respect their teachers, take education seriously, and to take responsibility for their own education? Those intentions? Good lord. What has this country come to? How dare the President of the United States encourage children to get educated? What could he possibly be thinking? I mean we all know, if he wouldn’t do all of this encouraging we could have a nation of uneducated citizens who wouldn’t have any choice but to depend on the government. I mean, it would seem as though it’s against is Socialist interest to give this talk to the kids in school. Look at all the voters he’s going to miss out on. Silly President… Educated children are for Democracy, not Socialism.
And the real ironies of the situation are these. A. Students are being pulled out of school so that they can’t be encouraged to stay in school. B. Think about it, children are the most Socialist people in the country. They depend on the more fortunate people in the home for food, shelter, healthcare, education, money… Need I say more?
Jeers: To the city of Burleson for charging $75 for not making a complete stop at a red light before making a right turn, ripping people off for this trivial violation. No one is concerned with speeding violators zooming down Interstate 35W at 90-plus miles an hour! I’ve never seen one Burleson police car patrolling the interstate during the 34 years I’ve lived here!
— Joseph F., Burleson
Uh oh…Looks like Joseph got caught. Giggle. Joseph, it’s very simple… Not coming to a complete stop before making a right turn on a red light is a violation of city and state motor vehicle laws. Technology has come a long way and we now have an economical and effective way of monitoring those intersections in which multiple accidents have occurred due to running red lights. The studies have been done and this fact is proven. Not only do these cameras help protect drivers from inconsiderate idiots who think traffic violations shouldn’t apply to them, it frees up police officers in the city to help patrol schools, businesses, and your neighborhoods to help prevent more serious crimes. Yes, not stopping at a red light is minor, but the officer who would usually sit there and monitor the intersection for idiots like you is now doing patrols around your children’s and grandchildren’s schools so that they aren’t abducted and murdered. Here’s the deal Joseph, if you don’t want to pay out $75 dollars then take the 3 seconds required to be considered a complete stop at the red light and then make your turn. As for the officers not patrolling I-35 in Burleson, shut up ya jack ass! I speed through there all the time.
Jeers: To the stupid people who decided I had to convert to digital TV. I was out about $500, and I still don’t have the good service I had with my old TV stations.
— Ruth, Joshua
Hey Ruth…Ya ever think that the problem might not be your tv or the conversion, but more so the fact that you live in the effing sticks?
Jeers: To those who voted for the current administration. We have higher taxes; lower-paying jobs, if any; lower pensions, if any; smaller Social Security checks upon retirement; and no cost-of-living adjustments for Social Security in 2010 and 2011 to look forward to.
— Delores, Fort Worth
And I counter. Jeers to those who voted for the previous administration for getting us into the mess we’re in now. Delores, you’re a dill.
